Dick Kane, Founding Member of NeAA Passes

Richard Peter Kane, 90, of Wisner, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Faith Regional Medical Center in Norfolk. He was born February 3, 1924 in Wisner to Daniel and Julia (McGuire) Kane and is a 1941 graduate of Wisner High School. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner, where he sat on many committees, including the cemetery committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Joseph Rose Council 7779 in Wisner. He served on the board of directors of Citizens State Bank. He boxed in the Golden Gloves as a light heavyweight. After attending auctioneer school in Iowa he went on to sell auctions across the United States and Canada for more than 50 years. His regular auctions included the stockyards at Omaha, sale barn at Bassett, Ak-Sar-Ben Grand Champion Steer and Heifer sale, and the Henry Doorly Zoo fundraiser. He was a co-founder of and Hall of Fame member of the Nebraska Auctioneers Association. He is survived by nephews, Terry Kane and wife Antoinette of Columbus, Dan Kane and fiancée Maria Wilson of Wisner, and Gerald Kane Jr. of Lincoln; sisters, Mercedes Dea of San Diego, Joan Anderson and husband Dwayne of Omaha; sister-in-law Marcella Kane of Wisner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Justin and Gerald; and sisters, Veronica, Mary, Margaret (Seybold), and Ursula (Liesche).

A FUNERAL MASS was held on Thursday, January 15 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
